This textbook is for salon therapists who provide professional relaxation and therapeutic massage. It covers the practical basics: obtaining consent, draping so the client stays covered, using the one-to-ten pressure scale, and performing the five Swedish stroke families, effleurage, petrissage, friction, tapotement, and vibration. It then sets out how to plan a sixty-minute full-body session and a thirty-minute back and shoulder session with the clock shares written down, how to work with desk workers and how to avoid grinding the spine, and how to run a seated head and scalp routine. Later chapters cover linens, oil, and hygiene; a twenty-minute foot and lower-leg sequence with the cautions that feet require; the medical conditions that need clearance before any work, including uncontrolled blood pressure, heart disease, cancer treatment, and osteoporosis; and what a client should feel afterwards, including the difference between ordinary soreness and a warning sign. It also states the limits of the role. Massage is not a treatment for disease, some clients must be referred rather than massaged, and a therapist who is not trained for a technique or a client group should say so and refer. Every chapter ends with salon examples and a specific caution that show how the rules apply in a real room. The book assumes the therapist works within local licensing, insurance, and salon policy, and it does not replace hands-on training with a qualified instructor.
