This textbook is for nail technicians who work with real clients in a real salon. It covers the parts of the job that decide whether a set lasts, whether a client stays, and whether the shop stays open: sanitation, anatomy, shape, timing, product control, structure, and the judgement to stop. There are twelve chapters, each with three sections, a salon example, and a caution. The early chapters explain what is under the nail and what a technician may and may not touch. The middle chapters cover the services themselves, from a forty-five minute manicure to a builder gel overlay. The last chapters deal with the nails that should not be covered, the signs that end a service, and the calendar that keeps a client's nails healthy between visits. The clients in the examples are fictional, but the problems are the ones that walk through the door every week. Read a section before you try it on a paying client, and keep the book at the station for the days when a nail does something you did not expect.
